Scanning/Reprocessing

A persistent and scary thought for most of my adult life was the possibility of losing my 6,000-odd slides and more than 2,000 prints, to a fire, burst pipe, act of God, etc. On top of that was the further realisation that even with careful storage, these images were deteriorating with time, and there was no simple solution.

So I was grateful for the digital revolution. In 1999 I bought both flatbed and slide scanners, and started doing high-resolution scans of all my images. My day job took me away from home quite a lot, so this exercise took best part of three years, including the inevitable tweaking in Adobe Photoshop® to get rid of dust, scratches and other blemishes, and to fix colour shifting and fading. But finally I had digital versions of all my images, and was able to backup these files in the normal way, and even to give a set of DVDs to a friend as an extra measure. I sleep a little better as a result!

For anyone who's come to the same conclusion that I did, that no amount of insurance will compensate for the loss of a lifetime's worth of photographs, we offer an affordable but professional scanning service that will give you peace of mind, as well as the many additional benefits of having digital images/versions of your old photographs.

We offer two levels of service:

  1. You can send us your old prints/slides/negatives and we will just scan them onto a computer CD or DVD.

  2. Alternatively, we offer an additional service of restoring your time-damaged photographs.
